Public art in the city

Monument des Braves de NDG City view with MuralMontreal has a lot of public art. From murals to statues to art installations - it's everywhere. Fortunately the Art Public Montreal website categorizes it all too!

From war monuments throughout the city's 350(+) years of history to murals of all kinds and sizes. A walk downtown or one of the many art tours can show you a ton of art. If you can't wait - there are a few tour podcasts (On the walls of the Plateau, from Laurier to Mount-Royal and In the Streets of Verdun, for example).

You should check them out when you're in the city -- and the Art Public Montreal website can help you plan your walks around downtown Montreal and beyond!

Boskone 62 Convention Report

The flight from Montreal was about 1h30m. Montreal had just finished the first of two snow storms, but I'm getting ahead of myself. Terry and I met up with Jannie at the airport. After checking in, and grabbing a bit to eat at MJ's - we went to registration. It was great to see so many familiar and friendly faces. I met Carl Fink, Angela Jones, and the tech wizard, Hobbit.

Boskone Fan Table 2025

Then it was off to man the fan table. The dealer's room was already hopping. It was fun watching art show set up, and of course seeing so many people being curious about the Montreal bid for a 2027 Worldcon.

Friday night we had a social. It was well attended.

But it was Saturday night's party that everyone was waiting for. Of course, it had to be a smoked meat party. We had the requisite smoked meat on golden rye bread (with mustard of course), and bagels with cream cheese. Special thanks to Bridgette for the kitchen help. Jannie stationed herself behind an ironing board, off which she served bagels, cream cheese, and Montreal lore.

We ran out of smoked meat pretty quick--which is a great sign that the party was well attended and appreciated.

Getting home was a bit of a trial as Montreal had a second snowstorm hit on Sunday - and a total of 30-odd cm fell atop the already 40+ cm from Thursday's storm. There was also a plane crash in Toronto on Monday afternoon (you might have heard about it). So all of that led to a lot of delays. Regardless, we all made it home safe.

The 80th edition of the Canadian Auto show returns to the Palais de Congress in Montreal this weekend, and runs from January 17 - 26, 2025.

The Auto show has a rich history with Montreal, and is a popular place to visit, see the latest models and technologies coming to the Car industry. To celebrate this venerable anniversary, the organizers, the Corporation des concessionaires d’automobiles de Montréal, have pulled off a tour de force: bringing almost every major manufacturer back under the roof of the metropolis’ convention center.

The show costs 21.40 $CAD (special prices for children, students, people 65+, and families). Bring comfortable shoes, and the Palais is not a small place and there's always lots to see!

It's all over the news this weekend, and the pictures certainly promise a great show!
