Montréal 2027 Worldcon
Montréal 2027 Worldcon is dedicated to providing a safe and inviting experience for all members of the convention. The policies in this Code of Conduct support our goal of ensuring that the behaviour of any individual or group does not harm other members nor negatively impact the convention experience.
Agreeing to follow this Code of Conduct is a prerequisite for membership of Montréal 2027 Worldcon.
The Code of Conduct applies to all members and all Montréal 2027 Worldcon venues, whether onsite or online. This includes members, volunteers, members of the convention committee, invited participants, guests of honour, dealers, artists, members of the press and all other individuals who are participating in Montréal 2027 Worldcon activities.
Montréal 2027 Worldcon reserves the right to revoke the membership, confiscate the badge or credentials, and bar or remove from the convention any person who, in the sole judgement of a convention chair or designated person, is found to have behaved in a manner contrary to the Montréal 2027 Worldcon Code Of Conduct, or who is otherwise deemed to pose a threat to the safety, inclusivity, or overall health of the Montréal 2027 Worldcon or its members. A convention chair or designated person shall, in their sole discretion, determine whether any item or activity is in violation of this Code of Conduct.

Accessibility
Montréal 2027 Worldcon strives to be inclusive of all members of the convention, acknowledging and respecting diverse backgrounds, abilities, and perspectives, including those of persons with physical and other challenges. Members shall not touch a person's mobility aids or assistive devices without permission. Members shall not pet, talk to, or distract service animals from their duties. Members shall use respectful and inclusive language, avoiding ableist and other discriminatory terms.
Airspace And Wheels
Montréal 2027 Worldcon prohibits the use of drones, helium balloons or any other helium-filled objects, in any convention or event venue. No flying or floating object or item, powered or unpowered, may be operated, whether or not it is tethered, within any convention or event venue. With the exception of mobility devices and strollers, wheeled items intended to carry people are not permitted. This includes scooters, skateboards (can be carried as part of a costume, but not ridden), bicycles, hoverboards, and Segway devices.
Badges
Each Montréal 2027 Worldcon membership badge is a credential that is the property of the convention. The badge is required for participation in the convention and must be worn or immediately available in all convention spaces. A badge allows access to the convention and indicates membership in good standing. Attempts to enter any convention spaces without displaying a valid badge will be refused.
Each badge may only be used by the person to whom the badge was issued.
A lost membership badge can be replaced at the registration centre with the presentation of identification. A member who requires more than one replacement badge may be charged a fee for each replacement beyond the first..
Costumes, Cosplay and Clothing
Costuming and cosplay at Montréal 2027 Worldcon are welcome and encouraged. All costumes, cosplay and clothing must conform to all applicable laws in Montréal.
The appearance of nudity is not a costume and is not an appropriate cosplay for Montréal 2027 Worldcon. Costumes, cosplays and clothing must provide the same level of body coverage expected at an all-ages public beach.
Genitals and pubic areas, the cleft of the buttocks, nipples, and areolas must be completely covered by opaque materials by all attendees, regardless of gender presentation.
Breastfeeding of infants is allowed in any area of the convention.
Costumes and clothing may not include racist, sexist, homophobic, transphobic, or otherwise prejudiced or bigoted messages or sentiments, obscene or offensive language, or images including uncensored profanities and pornographic content.
Any costume that gives the appearance of being a member of present-day Canadian military or law enforcement is not permitted. Current or former Canadian military and law enforcement personnel may wear uniforms in a manner consistent with military regulations governing off-duty dress.
Masks may be part of a costume or cosplay. Masks shall not include balaclavas, ski masks, and other styles of masks commonly associated with bank robberies. Medical masks, including N95 and surgical masks, may always be worn, as long as they are in accordance with other applicable policies.
Montréal 2027 Worldcon may inspect any item or costume, and request that an attendee remove an item from convention spaces at any time during the convention.
Costume Props And Weapons
Any item that is part of a costume or carried (also known as ‘props’) must not be able to be mistaken for an actual weapon. Props must not have sharp edges or points that might cause injuries. No actual weapons or projectiles are allowed. This includes but is not limited to live steel, paintball guns, tasers, water pistols, and other similar items. Replica projectile props must be rendered inoperable and the projectile passage covered with a brightly coloured cap.
Costumes and props that incorporate chemical effects are prohibited. This includes any item that, whether intentionally or not, emits, oozes, squirts or leaks any fluid, gas, fog, smoke, or odors. Glitter and confetti are also prohibited.
Costumes and props may incorporate audio elements of reasonable volume and lighting elements of reasonable intensity. Sounds and lights must be able to be switched off easily if they become disruptive to persons or events. No strobe effects with lights are permitted.
Props may not be carried or used in a threatening manner.
Members may carry tools such as pocket knives, multi-tools, and nail clippers, as long as such items are used as tools and not as costume components.
Harassment
Neither harassment nor prejudicial discrimination are tolerated at Montréal 2027 Worldcon.
Harassment includes but is not limited to physical assault and/or battery, offensive verbal comments, inappropriate physical contact, unwelcome physical attention, intimidation, abusive language, threats, stalking, bathroom policing, display of hateful images or language, and disruption of panels, signings, or other events.
Speech or actions that show prejudicial discrimination, including those relating to race, colour, culture, national origin, disabilities, gender, gender identity, gender presentation, sexual orientation, religion, age, body size, choice to wear a mask, and appearance, shall be considered harassment.
Photography and Recordings
All policies regarding photography also apply to all audio and visual recording technologies.
Official Montréal 2027 Worldcon staff photographers may be present throughout the convention in public spaces. On-duty photographers credentialed by Montréal 2027 Worldcon may take photographs without express consent. Montréal 2027 Worldcon photographers will not take up close individual photos of members without permission.
Montréal 2027 Worldcon members must ask permission before taking photographs of other members. If a person wishes for a photograph in which they appear to be deleted, they may ask the photographer to do so and the photographer must comply.
Prior consent is not required from people who appear incidentally in the background of an image, but are not the primary subject of the photograph.
Wearable devices for photography may be used but must be clearly identifiable as a wearable device for photography.
All photography must be for non-commercial use, with the exception of invited members of the press or where a contract and release is received by the photographer from each person photographed. Persons engaged in photography shall not block off, bar, or otherwise impede any use of the Montréal 2027 Worldcon venues.
Photography may not interfere with Operations, First Responders, Emergency Medical Services, Police, or other official personnel. Montréal 2027 Worldcon may require photographers to delete any photographs.
Flash photography is not permitted during any panel, presentation, programming item, or mainstage event.
Some panels and events will be streamed online and/or recorded by Montréal 2027 Worldcon.
Health, Vaccination Status and Masking
Montréal 2027 Worldcon will follow the guidance in effect from Health Canada, the province of Québec and the city of Montréal, in effect September 2 - 6, 2027
Minors in Attendance
Persons born after September 1, 2015 must be supervised in a manner appropriate to their age by an actively responsible parent, guardian, or designated adult while in convention spaces.
A designated adult is a member of Montréal 2027 Worldcon who is not the legal guardian or parent of the minor, is over the age of eighteen, and is recorded in the minor’s registration record as an adult responsible for the minor at the convention.
Members who will be under the age of 16 on September 2, 2027 are required to provide contact information for a parent, guardian, or designated adult when registering and must have a parent, legal guardian or designated adult with a valid membership provide legal identification at the time the minor receives their membership badge. Attendees who will be age 16-17 on September 2, 2027 must provide contact information for a parent, guardian, or designated adult when registering. Attendees 16-17 years of age may collect membership badges without the presence of a parent, guardian, or designated adult.
Pets And Service Animals
Pets are not allowed in any convention spaces. Service and guide dogs are welcomed in convention space but must be under the control of the owner at all times
Service animals are governed by federal and provincial law. Québec law recognizes only dogs as service animals. A person with a service animal may be required to present a proof of the dog’s special training or certification. A person with a service animal does not need to provide documentation or proof of their disability, medical need or health condition, nor to provide the opinion of a health professional. The service animal must wear a visual marker that it is a service animal bearing the logo of the organization that trained it.
Dogs in training, emotional support animals and therapy animals are not allowed in convention spaces.
Privacy of Personal Data
Information collected by the Montréal 2027 Worldcon is stored and managed in accordance with the Canadian Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA).
Data collected is stored securely, managed through appropriate protections and is treated as confidential. All 3rd-party data processors contracted by the Montréal 2027 Worldcon that store or access information via cloud services, on websites, in apps, or other tools will do so in accordance with the laws of Canada and Québec.
Data collected on an individual will be changed, deleted, or modified upon request by this individual or their legal parent or guardian in the case of a minor. All personal data submitted to Montréal 2027 Worldcon will be deleted on or before December 31, 2030 unless there is a legal requirement to retain it.
Smoking, Vaping, and Alcohol
Use of tobacco, cannabis, and alcohol at Montréal 2027 Worldcon shall be in accordance with the current laws of Canada, Québec, and Montréal.
